Pablo Pugliese 3 workshops 1 Master -March 12, 18 and 19 2006 - 2 -5 p.m.

Pablo Pugliese, son of the legendary tango dancer and teacher Mingo Pugliese, is one of the most exciting tango dancers to have emerged from Buenos Aires in recent years. He has been dancing Argentine tango since the age of nine. His first teachers were his parents Esther and Mingo, who trained many of the new generation of professional tango dancers. His ongoing studies in Buenos Aires and beyond have included ballet and modern dance as well as tango. A variety of scholarships has taken him to the prestigious Alvin Ailey School in New York, to Jacob's Pillow, America's leading dance festival, and elsewhere, and he has been the recipient of numerous awards. He has gone on to perform and teach master classes throughout the USA, as well as other cities including Tokyo, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, Berlin and London; while his dancing and choreography for international shows have led him to collaborate with many of tango's leading musicians, composers, directors and dancers. He currently lives in New York, where he is a member of the tango teaching staff at Dance Manhattan.

1st Workshop "Basics of tango" 12th March, 2006 This key workshop is aimed at dancers of all levels, including absolute beginners. It will cover walking, the embrace, connection with your partner and musicality. More experienced dancers will find it will help strengthen techniques that they need at a higher level

2nd Workshop "The code of turning" 18th March, 2006 The idea of the "code of turning" is fundamental to Pablo's method of teaching - and crucial, he maintains, to understanding tango in general. This workshop is aimed at dancers of intermediate level. It will help you understand the tango structure of turning, in order to improvise with freedom. It will also cover changes of direction, and will show you how to use the turning code dynamically on the floor.

3rd Workshop "Introduction to Colgadas and Volcadas" 19th March, 2006 This workshop is aimed at advanced dancers. It further develops the idea of the “code of turning” to help participants understand the relationship between their axis and their partner’s axis. This workshop will also cover an introduction to the inclined axis.

The Workshops Each workshop will begin with a 1½-hour class, which will cover exercises devoted to the theme of that particular workshop. The first will cover basics; the second, turns; and the third, the inclined axis. After a short break, there will be a clinic at which participants will be able to practise what they have learned at the workshop. This is an opportunity to have an expert give you personal tango coaching, in the context of a group practice session based on students’ questions and problems.

The Cost: Each workshop costs £35; each one is limited to 10 couples only. Booking in advance is highly recommended. Book before 28th February, and get £5 off. Tea, coffee and snacks included.
